Welcome to the Art Slam lovely people! I hope you are as excited as I am to get started with your art journals.
Sometimes, one of the hardest things for me to do is actually get started. That damn blank page can be such a challenge to overcome. I have ripped out page, after page, after page trying to make the perfect journal entry. Well, that just does not exist.
What helps me to get started, put something down quickly and cover the blank page is paint. Paint and I have not always been friends. But, I like it now for what it can do for my creations. The following examples all have backgrounds that were started with paint. I did about ten spreads in a day and put nothing else on the pages. I also just opened up a bottle of paint and squirted it on the page. Added other colors as I saw fit.
The good thing about creating your backgrounds first is the blank page is not there when you open your journal the next time. You also do NOT have to journal in order. I have done an entry in the middle of the book because the colors fit my mood better.
So, your project for this week is to create your backgrounds. You do not have to use paint. Use whatever you want. I also use paper, fabric, receipts from my favorite stores, anything. Just get started. If you feel like completing an entry, then by all means, do it!
Remember rule number one of the Art Slam…do not rip out a single page. NOT ONE! Don’t over think this. Open a bottle of paint or rip some paper and just put it down. See how fast you can do a background then move on to the next. You can always cover it up or paint over it again later. This is suppose to be fun and you are stepping out of your anal comfort zone. NOW CREATE!
