I went to a women’s conference this weekend and it was wonderful. Firstly, to be in the midst of other women and just celebrate each other was a blessing. This was also one of the first times I have gone to something like this without friends. I am glad I did. I was able to be open to the messages from the speakers and be in conversation with people I might not have spoken to had I been with a friend. It was also a time to reconnect with people I have not seen in years.
Secondly, the conference made me see just how much I value and miss my close female relationships. That connection is so important and I love seeing my eldest daughter and her friends together. Women truly have to support each other instead of breaking each other down. It is empowering to give yourself permission to be a priority. Always being a caregiver is exhausting…at least it is for me. I am a firm believer you are no good to anyone if you are not good to yourself first.
Finally, my light bulb moment was when the keynote speaker said we are living testimonies of the women who came before us and the girls who will be women after we are gone. It is easy to forget someone struggled so that we could have the life we do now. It is also easy to forget there are young eyes looking at us, watching our every move, listening to our every word. What an amazing privilege and responsibility we have to each other. How amazing.
