One of My Favorite Photos of All Time

Saturated

Going through some of my favorite pictures and sharing. I love the bokeh in this shot. If I was not waiting for someone right now, I would go on a little nature walk. These are the kinds of shots that make me appreciate my life and living.

A Journey in My Shoes

my shoes

This is one of my favorite black and white images. Taken before I really knew what I was doing with photography. I kind of miss those days when I explored more instead of worrying about being technically sound.  If the image was in color, it would not have been as impactful. No doubt about that.

Being in the Moment. Being Present.

“The more you seek security, the less of it you have. But the more you seek opportunity, the more likely it is that you will achieve the security that you desire.” – Brian Tracy

I have been reading so many books over the past few weeks, I honestly can not give an accurate accounting of just how many. I easily go to the library at least four times a week. Not the same library, two or three different ones. Libraries are cool. Each one of them has their own atmosphere and look. I like that and find I go to which ever one fits my mood at the time.

With all of my reading, there is a central message within the pages of each book. Whether fiction or non-fiction, they all leave me with message to just be. When a situation seems bad, I am reminded this too shall pass. Even when it is good, this too shall pass. This reminds me to live in the moment. Truly live in the moment.

In my work, I have always lived in the future. All of my deadlines were future based. I found other areas of my life were just like this, too. It is good to plan, I plan lots of things. But, all of this planning has a downside. When you are living in the future, planning for the future, you are not enjoying your present. Each moment ticks by and at some point, you stop and wonder where did the time go? Where were you that you did not notice?

I have to be present. I do. I am not down for passive living anymore where the whole freakin’ year flies by and I can’t remember what I did. I want things to be different. I have been practicing having moments of being present and it makes a difference. I have been able to silence the ever present inner critic by taking a few minutes to meditate and return to myself. It calms me. Out of all the things I try to control, this is the one thing I can control. Being present.

How I am Honoring the Planet this Earth Day

Earth Day! I get more excited about Earth Day each year as I find myself doing more and more to go green. The big thing for me last year was buying reusable shopping bags and actually using them! There are so many kinds out there to use and lots of the stores I frequent are selling the bags now. I personally like Envirosax. They are fashionable, portable and you can fit so much in them. These might be what I give all of my girlfriends for Christmas this year.

This year, I am going to start using the SIGG bottles. I hear these are really good to use instead of the plastic water bottles we use everyday.

In my home, I am changing all of the lightbulbs to the energy efficiency bulbs. While these suckers are a little expensive, I believe the investment over the next few years will be worth it.

Finally, I am growing a garden this year and starting a compost bin. I am the primary food shopper in my home and I have noticed over the past few months that the price of food is skyrocketing. It is downright insane! I want to have more whole foods in our diet and it will be nice having my kids help me tend the garden. Another benefit is I can make my own jam (which makes great gifts at Christmas) and can foods and have plenty of fresh stuff for grilling this summer! I am also going to try and do everything organic. No pesticides or chemicals. There might be a lot of screaming in my garden, as I am not a huge fan of bugs…thinking about them makes me itch!

So, these are my humble efforts to make the Earth a better place.
