It's nice to know that this kind of collecting is a tradition in the art community! How can anyone resist keeping a snatch of anything that strikes or inspires one?
But, the idea of a well organized system for treasure -keeping was a bit foreign...except for old torn manilla folders marked "People, Cities, Landscapes" and "Wow".
I'm glad you explained the "morgue" part. I think of
mine more as "Spirit Stuff"...in the sense that it awakens my spirit, the spirit is willing but the flesh is sometimes otherwise occupied, spirits speak to us...as my late mentor standing behind me saying, "The whole canvas, the whole...don't
niggle, move on"...and last but not least I will BE a spirit before I get to all that I want and try to paint!

I've always kept things that interested me- ads, packaging, whathaveyou,
but it wasn't until highschool when I attended a local vocational school or graphics communication that my teacher also told us to make a morgue file
I've been keeping a more a "traditional" morgue file- filed with ads and usually others' ideas
I also continue to collect packaging and such
I guess that it's a good thing to be a pack rat when your a graphic designer, lol
I also have a digital morgue file- the bulk of it is photos as well as a few ads
