Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow. -Melody Beattie

Jane - Oh Lu, I always find thoughts like Beattie’s to be so thoughtless at their core. Reality surpassed in favor of some forced cheer or positive thinking isn’t happiness. Writers like Beattie remind me of the 80′s the doctors who baited cancer patients with the thought that negative thinking caused their disease, and positive thinking could cure it. Studies later showed that a patients pos/neg attitude had little effect over their outcome.
I believe Nature gave us strife and unhappiness for a reason. It is hunger that drives us, and eventually a feast that sates us. Had we been born to marvel at crumbs, and feel them as a feast, we would cease to strive. If we were to feel grateful, instead of outraged, over the injustices and tortures of our past, we would feel no need to change the future.
Now I’ll have to write a post, otherwise, I’ll use up all your bandwidth.
shaz - very true. great post!
Jennae @ Green Your Decor - I really needed to hear this right now. Thanks for the reminder that gratitude is the difference between living your life and loving it. Gratitude is the one thing that keeps me going when I’m feeling down…and there is ALWAYS something to be thankful for.
