Buttons, Buttons Everywhere

button collection
I used to collect buttons when I was a teenager. They were cool back in the 80s. Lately, I have been attracted to buttons that make a statement. I am a graphic designer and I went to an industry show recently and the themes were “Going Green” and “Get Out and Vote”. I happened upon a table with tons of buttons on it, replicas of political buttons from past elections. If I could have, I would have snatched up about 67 of them. Instead, I snagged about twenty. I also collected buttons from BlogHer and various vendors. One of my faves is Jen Lemen’s hopefull button. I love it. It reminds me of her and she is one awesome lady.

Filling Up with Hope

I thought it worth sharing this post I did for the Art Slam.

I am in the middle of three projects for the Digital Scrapbooking Magazine and another special project. It is not always easy for me to stay focused when it comes to art. I can’t help myself. One idea flows into another.

I found this little book (and it is tiny) in my basket of mini books the other day and I realized I had not filled the envelopes with any faith messages. When I did the book, I did not know what I wanted to put in it. I only knew that I wanted the book to be full of hope. I am at a point in my life where I am filling up with hope.

This weekend, create a Book of Faith for yourself and fill it with encouraging messages. We all need a little sunshine every now and again, so why not give it to yourself.

Self Sustaining Faith in Yourself

Getting ahead in a difficult profession — singing, acting, writing, whatever — requires avid faith in yourself. You must be able to sustain yourself against staggering blows and unfair reversals. When I think back to those first couple of years in Rome, those endless rejections, without a glimmer of encouragement from anyone, all those failed screen tests, and yet I never let my desire slide away from me, my belief in myself and what I felt I could achieve.Sophia Loren, Italian film actress

You know I love a good quote. This one is one of those that comes along right when you need it. It reaffirms how important it is to keep on keeping on.

On the Edge of Beginnings

contemplating

Sometimes when you think you are done, it is just the edge of beginning. Probably that’s why we decide we’re done. It’s getting too scary. We are touching down onto something real. It is beyond the point when you think you are done that often something strong comes out. ~ Natalie Goldberg

Have you been on the edge of beginning? I have been there before and I am there now. I have been experiencing some creative blocks which I believe are a way to avoid doing what has to be done. Blocks are mental clutter. I have found the easiest way to get out of them is to work through them. Do those things you have to do instead of choosing to be stuck. I am working on some of my first projects for Digital Scrapbooking Magazine and they are coming out better than I thought they would. You don’t forget how to create when you are called to do so. My challenge is not being ultra critical of my art and not expecting perfection from everything I do. Nothing is perfect except for God. I can strive for it, but being perfectly imperfect is fine with me for now.
