For the next week, I am going on an information diet. No blogs, very limited news (which is killing me, because I love the political season), no newspapers or magazines (again, killing me, because I love reading new things). The great thing about having access to so much information is you are never without inspiration or ideas. The bad thing about having access to so much information is it can paralyze you into not acting on what you find. I found myself in this space a few weeks ago. I did not feel creative, all of my ideas felt stale and I knew I was putting too much pressure on myself to perform. I was uninspired, bored senseless and feeling the pressure to create on demand when I was not feeling it.
I figure this little experiment will help me focus on what is actually important to me. A dear friend sent me a copy of Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit and I have had more than one epiphany since I started reading. I figured out that some of the things I have been pursuing are no longer on the top of my priority list. My goal for this week is to gain direction for my creative pursuits as well as get back in touch with my authentic creative self. So far, so good.
