Hope

It does not matter what political party you decide to support this election year. What is most important to me is seeing so many people registering to vote and making their voices heard.

I attended my second Presidential rally last week and it was an amazing experience. This time more than the last (which was four years ago) because of ALL the people. Thousands of them, young and old, all ethnic backgrounds, coming together for a common cause and belief. Hope.

I have had people assume I am supporting Senator Obama because he is of the darker persuasion. That is simply not true; and if I was, it would make me extremely shallow. I am not shallow. I believe myself to be an informed, big picture voter. I study all of the candidates and read their plans, actually mess around with a few numbers to see how their tax talk will really affect me. What I like the most about his message is he understands if it were not for the average typical American worker, this country would be nothing. If it were not for them building a firm foundation for our country, there would be no wealthy, upper class. Sometimes, I think people forget where they came from or who got them where they are now.

I love my neighborhood and the people who live in it. We had a pretty bad wind storm (courtesy of Hurricane Ike) a few weeks ago and I saw people of all colors and backgrounds banding together to help each other save their homes. It did not matter the color. When it came down to it, we were all people. I believe we are close in this country of seeing people as people and not still judging by the color of their skin. I believe in the dream. Do you? If you do, exercise your right to vote. Be an informed voter and read all of the fine print as you vote on the issues that affect your community. It is up to us to make a change for our children and give them hope for the future.
