…and a Life List is Born



I tweeted a few weeks ago that I was looking for something new to do and I asked for suggestions. Karen suggested I create a life list. I have tried to do this in the past and it never went anywhere. My list was almost impossible to accomplish and it stopped being fun working towards crossing things off the list. This list feels different. It feels like fun.

  1. Learn to swim
  2. Learn to speak Spanish fluently
  3. Teach an online class
  4. Have a book published
  5. Visit Seattle when it is NOT raining
  6. Photograph 1,000 faces
  7. Participate in 10 photowalks (2 of 10 completed)
  8. Drive on Route 66
  9. Pay off all my debt
  10. Celebrate my 40th birthday with a huge bash
  11. Experience an entire day without speaking
  12. Learn to meditate (completed 5/28/10)
  13. Compose a song on my guitar
  14. Display my artwork and photography around my home
  15. Host a homemade pie party
  16. Host a radio show
  17. Crochet a piece of clothing I would actually wear
  18. Grow a rosebush
  19. Can fruits and vegetables
  20. Grow a vegetable garden
  21. Sew 50 pieces of clothing for my wardrobe
  22. Swing on a tire swing
  23. Fast for 21 days (completed 1/21/11)
  24. Memorize a Bible verse every week that has significance to me
  25. Teach my kids to ride their bikes
  26. Bake 52 different cupcakes in one year
  27. Resurrect my annual holiday cookie party
  28. Forgive completely those who have hurt me and done me wrong (completed 9/16/10 and on-going)
  29. Make a Red Velvet Cake from scratch with cream cheese icing
  30. Meet Oprah Winfrey
  31. Start an authentic living interview series
  32. Go on a cruise
  33. Spend an entire week speaking blessings and not one single complaint
  34. Start back taking ceramics and successfully throw 12 pots in one day
  35. Take a glass blowing class
  36. Walk a labyrinth
  37. Learn how to salsa dance
  38. Play my guitar while reciting my poetry
  39. Spend a weekend at Shaker Village
  40. Have a hat made and wear it to the Kentucky Derby
  41. Splash in rain puddles with my kids (completed 5/22/11)
  42. Wear an insanely expensive piece of designer clothing
  43. Go dark for two weeks, meaning no internet or email
  44. See a bull fight
  45. Host an art retreat
  46. Learn sign language
  47. Host a proper tea party
  48. Take guitar lessons
  49. Make a living only doing things I love
  50. Benchpress my bodyweight
  51. Solve the Rubik’s cube
  52. Take a hot air balloon ride
  53. Keep a food journal for 90 days
  54. Pay for something only with pennies
  55. Go to NFL or NBA championship game
  56. Create the perfect set of mix music CDs and give them away
  57. Give a confident speech in public
  58. Create my own cookbook
  59. Learn to belly dance
  60. Teach my kids to play jacks
  61. Make a movie (completed 4/5/11)
  62. Learn to knit lace
  63. Simplify my wardrobe to 10 pieces and wear them for a month
  64. Master the chaturanga dandasana yoga pose
  65. Create a menu for the week
  66. Grow heirloom tomatoes
  67. Shop for produce at the local farmer’s market
  68. Buy and sleep on 1500 thread count pillow cases
  69. Learn to roll sushi
  70. Go to Tiffany & Co. and try on the biggest diamond ring they have in the store
  71. Do stand-up comedy
  72. Start vlogging (completed 4/5/11) Love it!!!
  73. Join a bowling league
  74. Create a morning writing ritual
  75. Learn to do nothing
  76. Develop equanimity
  77. Simplify my budget
  78. Read something out of my comfort zone
  79. Save $20,000 in emergency fund
  80. Solve a crossword puzzle without cheating
  81. Take a self defense class
  82. Take a spinning class
  83. Ride a mechanical bull and stay on it for 1 minute (I have done this, but never stayed on for long)
  84. Donate $500 at once
  85. Stay at a 5-star hotel or resort
  86. Create a room that I love
  87. Fly first class
  88. Hug a mascot
  89. Join an investment club
  90. Have dinner in a location that overlooks an entire city
  91. Watch every Bruce Lee film ever made
  92. Tryout for a roller derby team
  93. Learn to say “Love” in 50 languages
  94. Play Bingo in a Bingo hall
  95. Throw a surprise party
  96. Own a dog again
  97. Expand my vocabulary
  98. Do 50 consecutive good quality push-ups
  99. Do a one-handed cartwheel
  100. Crash a party

Francine - Fantastic list Lucrecer! Karen has also inspired me to do this, I just need to find some quiet time to work on my list. I love the jacks item, weirdly enough I’ve been jonesing to play jacks lately!

Cindy - Karen also inspired me to write my list. I think it’s neat how we all seem to have very similar things on our lists. We should have a life list party where we could all get together and do projects to cross off the list.

I learned to teach chaturanga dandasana to beginners in yoga teacher training. When I learned all the tricks and modifications, I felt cheated. I had learned the hard way. If you want, I can share my secrets :)

Heather - Great list! I am total fan of lists, I have a before I am 35 list ( my next bday, March) a life list and online an 101 in 1001 days list, of course several things intersect on those lists!
And you and I have several things in common on the list – a few being – Learning to roll your own sushi, Teaching an online class ( I am currently working on developing one now!) , and belly dancing! And you have inspired me to add some things to my lists!

Lucrecer - Karen and Maggie inspired me to go ahead and get this bad boy out there. It took me about half hour to list 44 things and the rest took me about four days to pull together. I wanted my list to be fun.
