I wrote this post while participating in a blog tour conducted by Clever Girls Collective on behalf of Claritin®. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program.
Last year, I purchased my first orchid. To say it was an instant love affair is an understatement. I have always liked flowers and did not think to purchase them for myself until I saw this orchid in the store. It was the only one of it’s kind mixed in with a bunch of plain white and purple ones. I had to have it. Adding the orchid to my home added something other flowers have not. They have a calming energy and made my dining room so inviting. I found myself sitting in that room more and more to work because it felt so peaceful. Before I moved almost a year ago, there were two spots in my house I spent a great deal of time sitting and meditating. One was by a huge picture window in the front room and the other was my dining room table next to the orchid.
Another advantage of having an orchid around is it is an allergy-free plant. For a person who battles seasonal allergies, plants like this are right up my alley. Now, houseplants still collect dust and the soil can form mold (actually, there’s no can about it, it does). I didn’t do it before, but I have started dusting my plants and watching how much I water them. My orchids only require three ice cubes once a week to keep them in tip top growing condition. I love that. Takes all the pressure off of “death by water” when it comes to houseplants. I am glad I found orchids and even more glad to find out I can have them around and not worry about sneezing my head off. This is a love affair I truly enjoy.

Diedra B - ice cubes you say?!
chris pellis - Interesting info on the orchids, i was worried they would be too high maintenance–must look into getting a few! as long as the feline doesn’t try to munch them.
Barbara - Great photo of the orchid the photo is focus and the detail is great what type of lens and camera are you using???
Lucrecer - Barbara, thank you. I shot the image of the orchid with an Rebel and I used my Lensbaby as my primary lens for shots like this. It is a favorite.
