Life is the Art Workshop Details

When does the next workshop begin?
This workshop begins Monday, October 17, 2011 and continues for four weeks. Registration begins Saturday, October 1, 2011.

What is the cost of the workshop?
The workshop costs $75 for the four-week course.

What exactly is an online workshop?
An online workshop is a class where we meet virtually over the internet. You can participate in this class from the comfort of your home or wherever you have a computer. This workshop includes videos, emails and downloads. You can participate in the lessons whenever the timing is best for you.

How does the class work?
Each week, you will receive emails and videos lessons, techniques, journal prompts and a few surprises that will help you explore and discover more about yourself and your everyday life through art journaling. The videos are private, as are the emails and the website. You will be able to access them at your convenience.

How much time does it take?
You are welcome to spend as much time as you see fit working on your art practice. Each lesson has been created to inspire you and get you working in your journals daily and can take anywhere between 1 to 3 hours to complete. What is most important here is cultivating the process for creating art everyday regardless of the amount of time you spend doing it. I do not want you to feel overwhelmed or as if you are falling behind. There is NO guilt with this workshop.

What do I need to participate in the workshop?
You’ll need internet access so you can visit the site for the lessons and an email address to receive your weekly emails. You do not have to share anything in your journal unless you desire to do so. Suggested materials list is below.

Is there a materials list for the workshop?
At a minimum, you will need something to journal in or on. Art journals do not have to be books. I have many loose pages or canvas I have used as a basis for my pages. A basic round-up of supplies I will be using on a regular basis are acrylic paints, watercolor paints and crayons, colored pencils, markers, ink, old gift cards, rubber stamps and paint brushes. I am not going to encourage you to go out and spend a fortune on supplies or purchase insanely expensive stuff, so use the list below as a guide:

  • Journal, sketchbook, watercolor paper or canvas (something that will accept acrylic paint and Mod Podge or Gesso)
  • Foam-tipped paint brushes
  • Assortment of paint brushes (go for the cheap kind if you are purchasing these)
  • Mod Podge, glue sticks or some kind of adhesive
  • Assortment of acrylic paints (again, the cheap stuff is just fine)
  • Crackle Medium
  • Old plastic cards or gift cards (used for spreading paint on the pages)
  • Waterproof pen or marker (Sharpies are a good example)
  • Watercolor crayons
  • Rubberstamps
  • Scissors
  • Assortment of ephemera, such as: photographs, old sheet music, maps, gift wrap, tissue paper, book pages, handwritten notes, magazines, brochures, etc.

Marilyn Hilton - Occasionally I have been coming to your site. I love everything that you do with art and writing. It is my dream to be able to write and inspire. I love to be creative as well. I have just recently started working my blog, learning everyday.

I am interested in taking your class, but just today realized that it has already started. Is there any chance to get in late? or make up the missed classes?

I look forward to hearing from you.

sara - Is the class closed after the registration date or, could one still sign up for the class at this point, after it’s already started? How long will participants have access to the materials?
thanks :) (came over today for the first time via Karen’s babble/ gratitude posts!)
